I’ve always wanted to explore directing abstract pieces of work.
Sitting in the theatre, I was always fascinated by abstract works and abstract writings. I found beauty in such nuanced works dealing with the phenomena of silences. To me, abstract works invoke a feeling that is often triggered by strong imagery, symbols and performative silences. All of these work together to create an interpretation that hits stronger than explicit works. Somehow I always knew I wanted to test my hand at working with an abstract piece of writing sometime in the mere future. I am incredibly grateful to Fezhah Maznan’s project: Tunjuk Arah/Iyakkunar for giving us, young directors a platform to put our directorial abilities to work to produce our own staged play. I am humbled to be given the opportunity to direct Natalie Hennedige’s A Litany of Broken Prayer and Promise with two amazingly talented actors. Thank you for allowing me to grow artistically and personally.
